The things people ask before they download

Granite is an iOS strength and conditioning coach for athletes whose main sport isn't lifting. Here is what it does, who it's for, and how it differs from the alternatives.

What is Granite?

Granite is an iOS strength and conditioning coach for athletes whose main sport isn't lifting. It writes you a twelve-week lifting programme and rewrites it every week around what you actually did — the sessions you logged, the pain you flagged, and the training you did outside the gym.

Who is Granite for?

Grapplers, team-sport players, runners who also lift, and self-coached lifters who know enough to write a block but not always when to abandon it. If your hard training happens somewhere other than the barbell, Granite is built for you.

Does Granite work for BJJ, wrestling or other grappling?

Yes. Hard rounds on the mat are training load, and Granite counts them. Flag a heavy week of rolling and it eases the lifting that would otherwise bury you — the thing a generic programme never does, because no other strength app knows you were there.

Can Granite programme around an injury?

Yes. Injury is an input, not a disclaimer. Flag pain and the exercise changes — not just to a lighter weight, but to a different movement chosen to keep the session's intent. Rehab work is never cut.

Does Granite need an internet connection?

No. The coaching runs entirely on your device, so Granite works in a basement gym with no signal. Where a coaching note is written by AI it uses Apple Intelligence, which runs the model on your iPhone — there is no cloud.

Is my training data private?

Yes. There are no accounts and no server. Your profile, injuries, logged sessions and every decision the coach makes are stored on your iPhone and nowhere else. If you delete the app, the data goes with it. The full policy is here.

How much does Granite cost?

Logging is free, forever. The coach — the weekly rewrite, the triggered deloads, the injury handling — is £25 a month. For comparison, a human strength coach is around £200 a month, and a shared plan with a chat window is about £80 and gives everyone the same week.

How is Granite different from a training template or a shared plan?

A template is written once and never changes. Granite reads what happened each week and writes the next one, so the programme you finish is not the programme you started. It is individual, not a plan with your name at the top.

How is Granite different from a human coach?

It is a fraction of the price, it is there every day, and it reads your whole week — not just the sessions you remember to mention. It won't watch your technique across the room the way a coach in the gym can, but for the programming decisions it never misses a session.

Why not just ask ChatGPT to write my programme?

Because you would have to ask it, every week, with the right context. Granite doesn't wait for the question — it reads your week, makes the call, and has already changed the session before you open the app. A coach you have to prompt is a search box.

What does Granite not do?

It doesn't write your running plan, tell you how to roll or race, or plan your meals. There is no sleep score to chase, no streak and no leaderboard. It writes your lifting, knowing what everything else cost you — that is the whole product.

Does Granite use RPE, periodisation and deloads?

Yes, and it gets the boring part right first. Progressive overload, RPE, periodisation, and deloads that trigger when your fatigue actually arrives — read from your RPE, your missed reps and how much you did off the platform — rather than on a fixed calendar.

Is Granite available on Android?

Not yet. Granite is built natively for iPhone and uses on-device Apple features — like on-device AI for coaching notes and live camera form check — that an Android version would have to rebuild. It is iPhone only for now.
